AdQ Aqua Takes on Role in Large-Scale Aquaculture Project in Iceland

AdQ Aqua has secured an important role in the new Salmon Garden aquaculture project in Iceland, where Samherji Fiskeldi ehf. is the project owner. The assignment includes technical support, coordination, and follow-up of electrical installations, automation systems, and control systems.
Salmon Garden is one of the largest land-based aquaculture projects currently under development in Europe, located on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwest Iceland. The facility is being established within HS Orka’s Resource Park, with access to 100 % renewable geothermal energy. The project has been under development since 2020, and groundworks commenced in October 2024.
The facility will be constructed in several phases and is planned to achieve an annual production capacity of approximately 36,000 tonnes of salmon in live weight, equivalent to approximately 30,000 tonnes HOG (head-on gutted), when the facility is fully developed.
The first phase covers around 10,000–12,000 tonnes and is financed through a combination of equity and loans. When fully operational, the project is expected to create around 100 direct jobs, in addition to significant local economic benefits.
The project incorporates advanced technologies, including partially recirculating aquaculture systems (PRAS), integrated control systems, and a high degree of automation to ensure efficient operations and excellent fish welfare. The need for effective interaction between multiple technical disciplines makes coordination and system integration critical success factors.
AdQ Aqua will play a central role in the technical follow-up and interface coordination between various suppliers responsible for power distribution, control systems, and process equipment.
Through this assignment, AdQ Aqua further strengthens its position within complex land-based aquaculture projects and becomes part of an international flagship project for future salmon production based on sustainable energy use and advanced technology.
